PRAYAS JAC SOCIETY
ABOUT THE PIA

India has large young population, only 5% of the Indian labour force in the age group of 20-24 years has obtained vocational skills through formal means whereas the percentage in industrialized countries varies between 60% and 96%. About 63% of the school students drop out at different stages before reaching Class-X. Only about 2.5 million vocational training seats are available in the country whereas about 12.8 million persons enter the labour market every year.

A majority of Indian workforce does not possess marketable skills which is an impediment in getting decent employment and improving their economic condition. As we are aware about the fact that India needs 500 million skilled youth by 2022. To achieve this goal Prayas and Ministry of Rural Development joined hands to implement Swaran Jayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY) – Special Project in the five most backward districts also come under IAP districts of Bihar (Gaya, Nawada, Jehanabad) and Jharkhand ( Hazaribagh, Ramgarh).

Prayas today undertakes various programs and functions through 236 community-based centers, with an outreach of 50,000 beneficiaries, of which over 15,000 of them are youth and women. Prayas offers around 50 courses ranging from Carpentry to Computer. Prayas offers an opportunity for the trainees of Vocational Training Programmes to polish their skills through practice and have hand on experience of a business enterprise. The On Job Training at Production Centers help in the placements as well. Prayas is committed to provide placement linked time bound training to 2000 BPL youth/women under the age of 18-35 in the pilot project and place them in the decent jobs at minimum wages.

Trade (Basic Computer, Automobile Repairing, Hardware Networking, Hospitality and Retail) are selected on the basis of local as well as industrial need, based on the results of market scan. After receiving the sanctioned letter from our coordinating agency, National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD) Prayas geared up activities toward the implementation of the project.

MESSAGE FROM GENERAL SECRETARY
Mr Amod K. Kanth
(General Secretary)
PRAYAS JAC SOCIETY

We are extremely happy to participate in this unique National Mission For Skill Development to empower the powerless-the deprived and marginalized youth of India, by converting them into self-reliant and productive entities. Through our voluntary organization, Prayas that operates in eight states running over 200 community-based centres for the poor, cutting across the country from Andaman & Nicobar Islands to Arunachal Pradesh, we intend to bring about the change in the lives of the marginalized sections of the society who have little opportunity to become part of the remarkable economic prosperity that this country is witnessing. Our SGSY special project in close collaboration with the local government and Panchayats in the most difficult areas, run by a team of highly professional managers, trainers, community- mobilizers and other staff, is bound to create a real and holistic difference in the communities whom we serve.
